Who is Joseph Daveson in the 1820 Gibson Co.,IN Census?

To learn more about my great, great,great-grandfather, Josiah Davisson of Ohio and Indiana, I like to explore his relatives, possible relatives and their neighbors.   In Gibson County and Pike County, Indiana, there were several Davissons, Davisons and Davidsons.   Among these were several Josephs.

One in particular was" Joseph Daveson" in the Gibson County 1820 census.   There were two adult males in his household, one in the 16-  26 age range, and the other in the 26-45 age range.   There was a young woman in the age range of 16 to 26, possibly a wife.  Also there was a woman in the age range of 45 and upwards.   I used to think this Joseph had to be the Joseph Davidson, born 1798 VA, son of John Davidson of Pike County, and the other adult man, 26- 45 was his father, John, along with his mother, Mary, age 45 and upwards.   The children in this household were 2 boys, age 0-10, and 1 girl, age 0-10, evidently born in 1820 and before.   So where were these children in the 1830 Pike County census?  They were not with Joseph and Elizabeth (Conger) Davidson, who were married in 1824.  The 1830 Pike Co census has Joseph and Elizabeth (Conger) Davidson with only their first two children, age under 5 years; Thirzah and James Edwards Davidson.

" Joseph Daveson", in the 1820 Gibson Co. census, had two close neighbors, Fielden Colvin and Michal Frederick.  Fielden (or Fielding) Colvin married Elizabeth Davison Whipps in Mason Co.,Kentucky in 1813.1   Fielding and Elizabeth Colvin attended a church that was first held on Dr. Joseph Davisson's land, west of Union, Pike Co.2  ( My Josiah Davisson lived next door to Fielding Colvin in 1840.)  Fielding had a land patent for land just west of Union, Pike Co.  It was located in Gibson Co., near Dr. Joseph's land, in Twp. 1S, Range 9W, Section 6.3    I do believe that Fielding's wife, Elizabeth, was a sister to Dr. Joseph Davisson.   So having Fielding Colvin as a neighbor pointed to Dr. Joseph Davisson.

Michal Frederick, Joseph Daveson's other neighbor, presented a challenge  I knew the Fredericks to be connected to Joseph Davidson, born 1798 VA.  (Mary Frederick Glass was the mother of Elizabeth (Conger), wife of Joseph Davidson, born 1798 VA.)   "Michal Frederick", 1820 Gibson Co., was in the 16-26 age range.  He had a wife age 16-26, and one son, aged 0-10.  With further investigation, Joseph's neighbor is Michael C. Frederick who married Mary Lindy in 1818. 4  She was the daughter of Frederick Lindy who bought land located a mile or less north of Dr. Joseph's land.   On an old historical, 1881, map of Gibson Co., there is also Lindy land about 1 mile northwest of Dr. Joseph's land.5  So it's not impossible that Michal and Mary Frederick lived near her father in 1820, which would place them in the neighborhood of Dr. Joseph Davisson.  Michal's parents, Lewis and Elizabeth gave 234 acres to their sons, Michael and Peter in 1826.  So Michal and Mary, no doubt, moved about 2 miles northeast of Frederick Lindy's land.

The next step was to find out where the neighborhood of Joseph Daveson (and Michal Frederick) was located.  I assumed that when the census taker wrote each name on the record, he went from farm to farm in a general direction.  At the top of this particular census record page was the name, Frederick Lindy.  Toward the bottom was the name,  Alexander Harvey.   Frederick Lindy had land in Twp. 1N, Range 9W, Sec. 31; this was a mile or less, west of Union, Pike Co.6  Alexander Harvey had land in Twp. 1S, Range 9W, Sec. 18; this about 2 miles southwest of Union.7     The other neighbors, that I found in the land patent records, were in the general area between Frederick Lindy's land and Alexander Harvey's land.   So it appears that the census taker traveled from north to south on this page.  Dr. Joseph Davisson had a land patent right in this area; Twp. 1S, Range 9W, Section 6.  This same section 6 is where Fielding Colvin had land.  I might mention too that Dr. Joseph Davisson and Fielding Colvin had land in Section 5, near Union, along with Phillip Devendall.  Phillip is on the same 1820 Gibson Co. census page as Joseph Daveson and Fielden Colvin.    The fourth person down on the census page is Wilford Hager.   A Deffendall (Devendoll) researcher says that Wilford married Mary Deffendall, daughter of Philip Deffendall.  Wilford was next to Simeon Devendoll who was next to Philip Devendoll.   Clay Twp., Pike Co. area was still a part of Gibson Co. until 1824.

Below is a diagram showing where some of the names on the 1820 Gibson Co. census page had land.  This is according to the Gibson Co. Tract Book which included early dates before the actual land patents were obtained.   Names without dates got land patents basically after 1830.  Other names on the page could not be found in the land patent records or the tract book.

Notice "Joseph Davidson" in section 18 of Twp. 1N.  This is Joseph, son of John and Mary Davidson (sometimes spelled Davisson), who married Elizabeth Conger.   I included this Joseph and John Davisson to show where they had land.  Joseph got land patents in 1835 and 1837.  His name was spelled "Davidson" on these patents.   His land was in the neighborhood of John Glass, Sebastian Frederick and Levi Conger.  This Joseph is said to have stayed on his farm until he died in 1871.

The names on the 1820 Gibson Co. census page with Joseph Daveson were:  (starting at the top) Frederick Lindy, Phillip Devendall, Simeon Devendall, Wilford Hager, Nathaniel West, Thomas West, Wm Cheek, James Cheek, Robert Black, Joseph Daveson, Michal Frederick, Fielden Colvin, James Scantlin, Daniel Hank, James Windert, Thomas Sheels, Polly Bullard, John Boolard, Polly Phillips, Wm Phillips, Wm Hearvy, Thomas Sullivan, Henry Oneal, Alexander Harvey, Peter Bullard, and Elizabeth Garner.

All this information above, leads me to believe that "Joseph Daveson" was Dr. Joseph Davisson.  The other adult male in the household is, I believe, Elijah H. Davisson.  The children are not Elijah's since Elijah married Elizabeth Wright on Aug. 17,1820.  As of now, I believe Dr. Joseph was an older brother to my Josiah Davisson of Ohio and Indiana.   I welcome any corrections.

Dr. Joseph Davisson/Davidson of Indiana--Was He an Older Brother to Josiah?

Dr. Joseph Davisson was born in 1798 in  Harrison Co., West Virginia, according to other researchers.   One researcher says that he had a brother, Andrew, and both attended Randolph Academy in Clarksburg, Harrison Co., West Virginia.  ( I personally have no proof of this).

In 1813, he enlisted  as a private in John Payne's Company of Kentucky Militia.  John Payne was from Mason Co.,Kentucky (1).   Joseph also alleged that he served with Capt. McClelland's Co., Ohio Militia, in 1812. (2)  Robert  McClelland of Greene Co.,Ohio had a company of volunteers from Greene Co., Ohio in 1812.  Joseph's name is not on the official roster.  But if we believe his claim, this would put him in Greene Co., Ohio about 1812.  Dr. Andrew W. Davisson was there at that time and his brother-in-laws were on the roster.  This is also the place where my Josiah Davisson lived, at least by 1817, before moving to Gibson Co., Indiana.   What was Dr. Joseph  doing in Greene Co.,Ohio?  I can't help but think this connects him to Dr. Andrew W. Davisson.   My theory is that Dr. Joseph, Dr. Andrew and my Josiah were brothers.   In 1840, a Clarendon Davisson, attorney-at-law, was listed along with Dr. Joseph Davisson, physician, in the Petersburgh, Pike Co.,Indiana City Directory.  Clarendon was a son of Dr. Andrew W. Davisson of Xenia, Greene Co.,Ohio, mentioned above.  Could Clarendon have come there because he knew Dr. Joseph and the other Davissons?

In 1815, in Mason Co., Kentucky, a Joseph Davison was bondsman for John Davison, Jr. and Charity Cain. (3)  I believe that John Davison, Jr. was Dr. Joseph Davison/Davisson's brother also.   There were other Davison marriages in Mason Co., KY that involved people that moved to Gibson and Pike Cos., Indiana.

Dr. Joseph Davisson, along with Fielding Colvin, James Lounsdale, James Hillman and others, bought land  from Toussant DuBois in the Gibson and Pike County areas of Indiana. (4)    If they bought their land directly from Mr. DuBois, it had to be around 1816 or before because DuBois died March 11, 1816.

On March 8, 1819, a Joseph Davidson was appointed a guardian of the children of a deceased Joseph Davidson ( Davisson).  The children named are those of Edith and Joseph Davisson.  Edith's husband, Joseph, died September 21, 1818.   Was Dr. Joseph appointed guardian of the children?   As of now I have no recorded proof, so I base my theory on clues found in excerpts of books found online.(5)   Note that Dr. Joseph was buried in the Hornbrook Cemetery just outside the town of Union, Pike Co.  This is where Edith's first husband, Joseph Davisson, and her second husband are buried.  Others include Fielding Colvin and his wife, Elizabeth Davison Whipps Colvin (married Feb. 11, 1813 in Mason Co., Kentucky; moved to Gibson Co., Indiana.  I  believe that this Elizabeth Colvin is also a sister to Dr. Joseph and Edith.  Since Dr. Joseph is buried in the same cemetery with these particular people, they could be his relatives.

In 1823 an early church group was constituted at the home of James Lumsdale, a short distance west of Union.  Members of the constitution included Fielding Colvin and wife, Mary Lumsdale (Mary Hillman Lounsdale), Elizabeth Shawhan (Elizabeth HIllman),  Elizabeth Davidson, and William Wright and wife.  The members  first met in a log building on Dr. Joseph Davidson's land. (6)  The names here are very interesting.  The Lumsdales ( also spelled Lounsdale or Lawnsdale)  were from Mason Co., KY and James had been in the militia with Josiah Davisson, son of Andrew (b.1722 NY)   I think that Elizabeth Colvin was Dr. Joseph's sister and these other people were interconnected friends and relatives from Mason Co., KY.   The Hillmans are connected; John Hillman married Mary Ann Davison in Mason Co.,KY.  John was also in the Kentucky militia with a John Davison, Samuel Whipps, and James Colvin, etc. and mustered out in Mason Co.,KY.    Elizabeth and Mary Hillman (maiden name) were sisters and were also from Mason Co.,KY.    Fielding Colvin married Elizabeth Davison Whipps of Mason Co.,KY.  Her first husband was James Whipps of Mason Co., KY.   (Note too that Edith and Joseph Davisson named their son, James Whipps Davison.   I believe that Edith is a sister to Dr. Joseph and Elizabeth Colvin.)  Next, the Wrights may be relatives to the Elizabeth Davidson, listed as a member, because Elijah Davisson married Elizabeth Wright and lived in Gibson Co.,IN.  He died between 1822 and 1825.   Elijah H. Davisson was with a Joseph Davisson in a newspaper article in 1822.(6)   Dr. Joseph seems to be related to some of these church members and this would appear to put  him in the Davison/Davisson family of Mason Co.,KY.   I think Dr. Joseph and these other Davissons are relatives to my Josiah Davisson.

Mary Ann Davison and the Hillmans

Daniel Bates Hillman, born abt 1772, and migrated to Mason Co.,Kentucky.  He had several children.  These were: Mary, James, Henry, John, Elizabeth, and Benjamin.

John Davison's daughter, Mary Ann, married Daniel's son, John Hillman, on May 18, 1812 in Mason Co., Kentucky.

Some researchers think John Hillman and his wife, Mary Ann (Davison) lived in Washington, Miami Co., Ohio in 1820 before moving to Pike Co., Indiana.  There was a John Hillman in the 1820 Census for Miami Co., Ohio along with a Benjamin Hillman, age 45 or older, and family.   John Hillman is about the right age, with a wife and one daughter, age beween 0 to 9.   However the Pike Co.,Indiana 1830 Census shows that John and Mary Ann had two sons born between 1811 and 1815.  The 1840 Census shows these two sons ages to be 20 to 20, requiring them to be born between 1811 and 1820.   John Hillman is listed as a voter in Clay Twp., Pike Co., Indiana as early as 1828.  So if John Hillman was in Miami Co.,Ohio, where were these two sons in 1820?  Were they born in 1820, meaning the 1830 Pike Co. Census is way off in the estimate of their age?   That would mean they were only 10 in 1830.  But John had a daughter in 1830 whose  age was between 10 and 14.   The sons are listed as older than her.

John Hillman's brother, James Hillman, was a Justice of the Peace as early as 1824 in Pike Co., Indiana.   James and Henry Hillman were still living in Mason Co., Kentucky in 1820.  I could not find John Hillman in Mason Co. in the 1820 census.  Was he in Ohio or Indiana or somewhere else?  However there was a Joseph Hellmun living in the Big Sandy Valley in 1793 along with Davissons, Lounsdales, Canes, Merandas, Calvins, and other interesting names relevant to the subject of this blog.  The Big Sandy Valley was located in northeastern Kentucky and was once a part of Mason County in 1790.

Elizabeth Davison and the Colvins

Elizabeth Davison (Davisson) was born about 1780.  Her father was John Davison of Mason Co.,KY.    Her mother's name is unknown.   Since I believe that her grandfather was Andrew Davisson (born 1722, New York), she may have been named after Andrew's last wife, Elizabeth.

On Aug. 24, 1800, Elizabeth married James Whipps in Mason Co.,KY.(1)   She and James had daughters:
     1.  Edith Whipps, married George Wright in 1820, Pike Co.,Indiana
     2.  Eliza Whipps, married Abraham Nixon in 1827, Gibson Co.,Indiana
     3.  Ingiba Whipps, married Andrew Nixon in 1820, Gibson Co., Indiana
     4.  Amanda Whipps, married John Colvin, brother to Fielding Colvin; John's first wife was Susan Nixon.

James Whipps belonged to a large family that settled in Mason Co., Kentucky as far back as 1799.  He is thought to be the son of John Whipps A Samuel Whips was listed in the Kentucky Volunteers of the War of 1812 along with a John Davison, John Colvin and John Hillman.

After James Whipps died, Elizabeth (Davison) Whipps married Fielding Colvin (Calvin), born 1792, on  Feb. 10, 1813 in Mason Co.,Kentucky.(2)     Fielding was about ten years younger than Elizabeth.

A Calvin family researcher says that Fielding Colvin was a son of William and Marah Colvin.(3)   A William Colvin did sign the marriage bonds for James and Fielding Colvin on Feb. 10, 1813 in Mason Co., Kentucky.   A William and Marah Colvin, in Mason Co., Kentucky signed a note of consent for their daughter, Margaret, to marry Thomas Stout in 1789. These Colvins are thought to have come from Virginia and settled in western Pennsylvania before coming to Mason Co., Kentucky.  Another says Fielding and his brother, John, were sons of William and Anna (George) Colvin.

Fielding Colvin, age 26-45, and wife, age 26-45 (Elizabeth) with five daughters and one son were living in the White River Twp. of Gibson Co. in 1820.    Elizabeth and Fielding's son was Anderson P. Colvin, born about 1829 in Indiana.

In the 1840 census of Gibson Co., Indiana, Fielding Colvin and Richard Colvin were  neighbors of my Josiah Davisson.   Fielding Colvin had a land patent, dated 1837,  in Washington Township of Gibson Co., Indiana.  It was located next to Dr. Joseph Davisson's land that he bought, with Elijah H. Davisson, in 1817.

Clay Township, Pike County, Indiana

Clay Township of Pike Co., Indiana is located in the northwest corner of the county, just across the line from Washington Township, Gibson Co. where my Josiah Davisson lived in 1840.  Many of the early settlers of this township are related to the ones in Washington Twp., Gibson Co. or lived in Washington Twp. as well as Clay Twp.

Clay Twp. used to be part of Gibson Co. until 1824.  Part of it, west of Conger's Creek, used to be in White River Twp.,Gibson Co.   This is important to notice when reading old census records.  The first settlement of Pike Co. was in this Clay Twp. when this area was part of Knox Co.  There was a Davidson/Davisson settlement in Clay Twp. in the early days.  Early settlers included Jonathan, Sebastian and Levi Conger, Peter, Sebastian and Michael Frederick, Henry,James and John Hillman, Fielding, George and William Colvin, James and Thomas Lawnsdale, Andrew Knight, John and Joseph Davidson, William M. Wright, John, James and George Chambers, Joseph Shawhan, James Thornton,John Decker,Frederick Lindy, Samuel Dedman, James Oliphant, Phillip Catt, Jacob McAtee, Charles White, Robert Crow,Captain Reedy and many more.  All these people are clues to more information about my Josiah Davisson.

Dr. Joseph Davidson, who lived in Washington Twp. of Gibson Co., also lived in Clay Twp. near the town of Union.   In 1816, another Joseph Davison, with wife Edith and six children, moved to Clay Twp.   This Joseph was related to the large Davisson family of Harrison Co., West Virginia; I believe his parents were Joseph Davisson and Mary Burns; his grandfather was Andrew Davisson who moved from Harrison Co., WVA to Mason Co.,Kentucky by at least 1792.  Joseph married Edith Davison, daughter of John Davison of Mason Co., Kentucky.   Joseph died in 1818 and is buried in the Hornbrook Cemetery near Union, Clay Twp.  Dr. Joseph Davidson is also buried in this same cemetery.

Another Davidson family in Clay Twp. was John Davidson, born ca 1773, and wife Mary, with a son, Joseph Davidson (b. 1798 VA), and daughter Matilda    These also came from Kentucky around 1815/16.   Joseph married Elizabeth Conger in 1824 and Matilda married Sebastian Conger in Pike Co.   I have not figured out if these Davidsons are related  to Dr. Joseph Davidson or Joseph and Edith Davison.  Joseph Davidson (b. 1798) of Clay Twp.,Pike Co. lived right among the same people as my Josiah Davisson in 1840.

There were several families living in Clay Twp. that came from Kentucky, knew each other in Kentucky and probably came together about 1816.   At this time I believe that Edith and Joseph Davison along with Elizabeth (Davison) and Fielding Colvin went from Kentucky to Indiana together in 1816.  Edith's husband, Joseph, died in 1818 in Pike Co., Indiana.  Exactly when Mary Ann (Davison) and John Hillman arrived in Pike Co., Indiana is unknown to me at this time.   (See my post about Mary Davison and the Hillmans

In 1860, my Josiah Davisson's daughter, Nancy Ann Davidson Kelly, and her family also lived in Clay Twp., Pike Co.  Her neighbors were John Hornbrook on one side and John L. Hillman on the other.  These are very common names in Clay Twp.  An older John Hillman, of Clay Twp., was married to Mary Ann Davison and they came from Mason Co., Kentucky.  When John Hillman was an older man and widower, he lived with Richard and Dorcas Colvin who lived by my Josiah Davisson in 1840 in Washington Twp.,Gibson Co.

Washington Township, Gibson County, Indiana

First doctor of Washington Twp. in Gibson Co.,IN was Dr. Joseph Davidson/Davisson.  Washington Twp. is bounded on the south by Patoka and Center Twps.  This township was located in the northeast corner of Gibson Co. and was bordered on the northeast by Clay Township of Pike Co.   The White River was its northern border.   Washington Twp. was formed from White River Twp.,Gibson Co. in 1824.     Gibson County was once part of Knox Co. until 1813.  Next to Washington Twp. was Clay Twp. of Pike Co.   This area was once part of Gibson Co. before 1824.

The names Davidson, Colvin, Hillman, Hornbrook, McClellan, Nixon, and Decker are found on a plat map in 1881. This is the township that my Josiah Davisson moved to before 1840.  Here his neighbors were Richard, Fieldin and Peyton J. Colvin.   Other interesting neighbors were Abraham Nixon, Samuel and Henry Decker, and James W. Lawnsdale.   Abraham Nixon married Eliza Whipps, daughter of Elizabeth Davison Whipps Colvin.   His brother, Andrew Nixon, married Ingiba Whipps, daughter of Elizabeth Davison Whipps Colvin.  James W. Lawnsdale, I believe is the son of James Lawnsdale and Mary Hillman.

As of now, I believe Dr. Joseph Davidson, the Colvins, the Hillmans and the Lawnsdales are important clues to my Josiah Davisson.   Colvins, Hillmans, Whipps, and Lawnsdales knew each other in Kentucky and probably moved to Indiana together about 1816.

Josiah's Marriage

Josiah Davisson married Sarah Todd on May 11, 1819 by Robert Armstrong--(Marriage Record Volume A Page 84).   Sarah Todd was the daughter of James and Sarah Jane "Jennie" (Buchanan) Todd.  She was born about 1799 near Nashville in Davidson Co., TN.   Her father, James, was born 1749 in Ireland.  He came to Lancaster Co., PA about 1764.  It's thought that he met the Buchanan family there and followed them to South Carolina, on to Kentucky and then to the Nashville, Tennessee area in 1779.   James married Jane (or Jennie) Buchanan and all their children were born near Nashville.  Sarah was the youngest of their children being born about 1799.  The Todd family moved to Xenia, Ohio about 1805. Was Josiah Davisson a relative of Dr. Andrew W. Davisson, who married Sarah's older sister, Rebecca Todd in 1807?

Josiah and Sarah Move to Gibson County, Indiana

Sometime between 1832 and 1840, Josiah and Sarah moved from Xenia, Ohio to Washington Township, Gibson County, Indiana.   In searching for why they moved to that particular place, I found some interesting neighbors.   They were not the only Davissons/Davisons or Davidsons in that area of Gibson County.  Is it a coincidence that Josiah's next door neighbors just happen to be connected directly or indirectly to Davisons?  In the 1840 Gibson Co. Census, one neighbor is Fieldin Colvin on one side and Peyton J. Colvin on the other.  Just above the name, Fieldin Colvin, is Richard Colvin.  Checking into these Colvins I found that Fieldin was married to Elizabeth Davison Whipps.  She was the daughter of John Davison of Mason Co., Kentucky and had married James Whipps first.   Richard Colvin married  Dorcas Hillman, niece of John Hillman from Mason Co., Kentucky.   John Hillman married  Mary Ann Davison, daughter of John Davison of Mason Co., Kentucky also.  Josiah's neighbor on the other side was Peyton J. Colvin who married Malinda M. Smith, a niece of Hannah M. Davisson Smith, daughter of Josiah Davisson of Greenup Co., Kentucky,  a former part of the old Mason Co. Ky at one time.
At first I thought Josiah moved to Indiana to live by relatives.  And this may be true but I also had to take into consideration the fact that other unrelated people of Greene Co., Ohio also bought land in Gibson Co., Indiana about the same time. Some of these were George Galloway, John McClelland, Hugh Watt, William Sterett and others.  Also Sarah's sister, Mary Todd Casebolt and husband, Robert, also moved to Gibson Co.and bought land in 1837 located in either Center or Columbia Twp.
I have yet to figure out why Josiah and Sarah moved to Gibson Co., Indiana.  Was it to live by Josiah's relatives or were they moving along with Sarah's relatives, the Casebolts, or did they join a general migration of Greene Co., Ohio people to Gibson Co., Indiana?

Dr. Andrew W. Davisson

Who was Dr. Andrew W. Davisson?   Is he related to my Josiah Davisson?   One researcher says he was born November 11,1783.  According to a history book of Greene County,Ohio he came there in 1804/05;  another says 1806.   One family researcher, in a post on a genealogy site, says he was born in Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia and had a brother, Dr. Joseph Davisson..  It's also thought he attended the Randolph Academy in Clarksburg, WVA.  His family is thought to come from Winchester, Virginia and then moved to Mason County, Kentucky.  I have no proof, myself, of any of this.

What I do know is this:  He married Rebecca Todd, the daughter of James and Jane (Buchanan) Todd in June of 1807 in Greene Co., Ohio by William McFarland, Justice of the Peace.  Rebecca was born March 2, 1790 near Nashville, Tennessee.  She was an older sister to my great, great, great-grandmother, Sarah (Todd) Davisson.  Andrew and Rebecca had the following children:

1.  Amanda Davisson, born 4-19-1808 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana;  married James P. Miller in 1829.  She died in 1897 in Washington, D.C.

2.  Eliza Jane Davisson, born 6-10-1810 in Ohio;  married Robert C. Hamill, born 1808 in Xenia, Ohio, on 11-14-1838 in Xenia.  She died in Chicago, Illinois on 2-25-1895.

3.  Mary Ann Davisson, born 12-1-1813 in Ohio;  married Thomas D. McCalla on 12-29-1841.

4.  Dr. Alfred W. Davisson, born 5-21-1816 (or 5-31-1815) in Xenia,Ohio;  Married Jennie (surname unknown).
He died in 1895 in Atlanta, Georgia.

5.  Clarendon Davisson, born 12-18-1818 (or 12-10-1817) in Ohio;  Married Mary Ann McIntire, daughter of John McIntire, on 7-22-1845 in Pike County, Indiana.  He practiced law in Petersburg, Pike Co., IN at the time a Dr. Joseph Davisson was a physician in Pike Co., IN.  Clarendon died 9-10-1878 at Brighton Island, Georgia.

6.  James Todd Davisson, born 1-1-1821 in Indiana;  He died about 1824 in Ohio.

Dr. Andrew W. Davisson died on 7-23-1822 at Madison, Indiana.  Rebecca returned to Xenia, Ohio and was listed  in the 1830 census of Greene County, Ohio.   The settlement of Andrew's estate was recorded on December 1,1829 in Greene Co., Ohio.   Josiah Davisson, my great, great, great-grandfather, and James M. Todd, Rebecca's brother,  were the administrators of his estate.  People who were paid from the final settlement mentioned in this record were James Collier, James Galloway, Jr., G. W. Stipp, J.B. Gardinier, Hugh Hamill, Alexander Turnbull, George Townsley, Moses Trader, J. Grover, A. Harlan, Esq.
Rebecca died in 1870 in Chicago, Illinois.  Their son, Dr. Alfred W. Davisson, went to Chicago in 1842.  He practiced medicine in Indiana and Chicago,Illinois; he was also a prosector of anatomy at a medical college.  He left medicine to start a bank with his brother-in-law, Thomas McCalla.
I want to know if and how Dr. Andrew W. Davisson is related to my Josiah Davisson, other than being his brother-in-law.
